Many things have changed since Path of Exile 2 Early Access went live a few weeks ago. Grinding Gear Games made notable adjustments on the topic of currency by releasing a couple of much-needed updates. Read further to learn about the state of PoE 2 currency so far.
What’s New in the Currency System?
Have you played PoE 2 Early Access when it launched on December 6? If so, Path of Exile 2 currency back then was pretty scarce, so much so that the community had been clamoring for Grinding Gear Games to do something about it. Thankfully, the esteemed developer obliged.
Starting in Patch 0.1.0c, GGG increased the number of PoE 2 currency items that can drop from monsters, especially those required for crafting like Regal Orbs and Exalted Orbs. Besides that, Gemcutter’s Prisms should be easier to find now.
For those who don’t know, Regal Orbs and Exalted Orbs are incredibly useful in crafting starter pieces of gear. Regal Orb is used on a magic rarity item with two modifiers and then turns it into a rare item with a few mods. After that, Exalted Orb is utilized a few times to get three additional modifiers.
Aside from that, Exalted Orb is now the main PoE 2 currency. If you need to buy items on the trade website, you must have a relatively good amount on hand. This currency item, along with the Regal Orb mentioned above, is obtained by defeating monsters.
Gemcutter’s Prism, on the other hand, is another useful Path of Exile 2 currency. However, instead of being used as an item for crafting, the “GCP” is necessary to improve the quality of skills.
Skills in this game can have their quality improved by the Gemcutter’s Prism. Each one gains an extra effect depending on the type of skill that was enhanced. For instance, the popular Lightning Arrow fires beams that can hit one additional enemy near its primary target if its quality is increased to 20%.
The Chaos Orb, which used to be the main PoE 1 currency for trading, is now a bit scarcer due to the changes implemented in Patch 0.1.0c. This is still a currency item used for crafting, albeit it’s not popular right now because of what it does.
You see, the Chaos Orb now removes one mod and then replaces that with an entirely new random modifier. The Chaos Orb is not that famous because people would rather trade Exalted Orbs with other players to get the stuff they need than dabble in crafting, which may result in many undesirable outcomes.
How About Gold?
Ah yes, one of the most important currencies in the game has also been tweaked. Before anything, gold is a useful currency in Path of Exile 2 that is used primarily for buying items from NPC merchants and refunding passive skill points. The latter has been a common pain point in the first 10 days of Early Access.
If you’re unfamiliar with the situation, you can “reap” points if you somehow allocated the wrong passive skills. When PoE 2 Early Access launched in early December, the game was still relatively new at the time, so it was common for players to experiment with various setups to develop more optimized builds.
The problem with the system back then was that players were required to spend increasing amounts of gold if they had to refund more than five skill points. This did not sit well with the community, so GGG addressed this by implementing a change in Patch 0.1.0e.
This update has made respeccing skill points about 40-50% cheaper than previously. The change is noticeable at higher levels, where a massive overhaul in notable passive skills is necessary unless one follows a build guide.
Despite tweaks to the system, some currency items are still quite scarce. So, if you’re struggling to obtain enough Exalted Orbs to purchase your favorite item, don’t worry! Buy PoE 2 currency in our store today!
